With the story now out by Tom Precious in the Buffalo News stating that the Jeremy Jacobs family has decided to concentrate on being part of a new stadium and not buying the Bills, Terry Pegula and Tom Golisano have become possible local front runners. Of course reporting someone has an interest is not actually saying much, but it has been out there for months that the current and former owner of the Sabres are interested in buying the Bills.

Terry Pegula has more money to spend that Tom Golisano and his ownership of another sports team fits better with his other interests, but one can’t rule out Golisano until the dust settles. Tom Golisano was a distant second in his quest to buy the Sabres until the Hamister deal went south and suddenly he was the only willing partner Adelphia had.

There has been talk behind closed doors for the last six weeks that Pegula may have become serious about the Bills, at least more so than originally heard from within the First Niagara Center. Then two weeks ago employees at the Sabres were told of the creation of Pegula Sports and Entertainment which would consolidate as many as seventeen different entities under the new flag, including the Sabres. Reportedly the driving force behind all of this is Kim Pegula.

Kim Pegula has quietly become a very significant player in the fortunes of Buffalo sports and I’m told is much more hands on than husband Terry. The Pegula’s would seem to have the liquidity pull off buying the Bills and making them a part of their growing empire in Western New York.

Meanwhile looming north is both Bon Jovi and Rogers Communications as two separate possible bidders on the Bills and now C. Dean Metropoulos the owner of Pabst Blue Ribbon, may be in the picture. One thing that is certain is that by this time next year the whole Buffalo Bill landscape will look much, much different.
