HOLLAND, NY… was the top winner of round one of Carwarz Crash-A-Rama fueled by Kwik-Fill on Saturday night in front of a packed house at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex. Holland veteran John Grandits was scored the winner of the Enduro, which paid $3,000 to win. Donald Dillenburg won the School Bus Figure 8 race. “The Eckness Monster” Jason Eck won the Boat-Trailer Race. Matt Serafin collected the win in the Flag Pole race. Demolition Derby specialist Tim Haniszewski out dueled his brother Tyler to pick up the win in the Demo while Jason Eck’s team was awarded the win in the Roller Derby.
The Enduro saw 65 entries take the initial green flag with Jonathan Martinez and Jeff Szafraniec leading the opening circuits. After the first red flag of the event, 4 Cylinder Hornet competitors Jeff Szafraniec and Kenny Hejna were leading the way. With Szafraniec, Hejna showing the way, John Grandits raced his way into third. Off a lap 13 red flag, Grandits was able to move into the lead with past race winner Bob Wodzinski moving into second and then into the lead unofficially on lap 15. Grandits would pass Wodzinski for the lead on lap 24. Wodzinski suffered a flat tire and pulled into the infield. With Wodzinski out of action, Jeff Szafraniec and Kenny Hejna moved back into the second and third. Jeff Joy took a hard hit in the turn one fence on lap 39. He was alert and talking to the medical personnel on site and was taken to an area hospital for observation. Once the race went green, John Grandits went on to pick up the victory.
Dave Warner and Jason Eck led the School Bus Figure 8 race to the green flag for their 15 lap A-Main with Warner showing the way. Donald Dillenburg raced his way into second and then Dillenburg took over the race lead on lap five over Warner in second and Kevin Becker in third. Becker moved into second at the cross-flags and began his chase of Dillenburg. Qualifying winner Dave Beyea raced his way into third and then after Becker blew a tire, Beyea moved into second. Beyea, a race rookie, moved in quickly on Dillenburg but Dillenburg was able to pick up the win.
Nearly 20 entries competed in the popular Boat-Trailer Race saw Jason Eck showing the way early and Eck was able to avoid the mayhem and picked up his third Boat-Trailer race victory. Eck also won the event at Lake Erie and at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio earlier this season.
20 entries took part in the Flag Pole Race and it was John Grandits showing the way early. Matt Serafin raced in second and the battle was on for third between Jason Eck and Darren Lenhardt with Eck getting the advantage coming out of the flag pole turn. Serafin passed Grandits for the race lead at the two to go signal and Serafin was able to go on to score the win over Grandits.
The team of Jason Eck; which also included Kenny Hejna won the competitive Roller Derby after ousting 10 other teams. For the Demolition Derby, Tim Haniszewski Jr picked up the win. Clint Riegle flipped during the Derby. Riegle walked away under his own power.
News and Notes: The Spring 2014 edition of Crash-A-Rama was the 25th show all time on the highbanks. “RV Dave” Dave Warner drove a motor home through a camper to kick off the show! A drifting exhibition took place as well. Holland hosts the Buffalo Drift Culture throughout the summer. Four young fans competed in the Kids ‘Redneck” Games. A jet-fueled Golf Cart melted a used van and the jet-fueled smart car put on a great show for the fans that were on hand. NASCAR Racing will return to the highbanks next Saturday night as the Bank of Holland presents the racing program. The Bank of Holland Chargers will race in their first extra distance race of the season as they compete in a 50 lap feature. The Getzoni Agency Pro Modifieds, Late Models, Hornets, NYPA TQ Midgets, Future 4’s, M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s plus the second visit by the INEX Legends will complete the racing card. During the intermission will be the annual Gold Rush, where thousands of pennies will be scattered on the infield. Gates will swing open in the pits at 3:30 with grandstand gates opening at 4:45. Qualifying will begin at 5:00pm and NASCAR feature racing will begin at 7:05.
