Don't Get Me Started

DON’T GET ME STARTED takes one look at the American League 2014 All Stars and can’t envision the AL losing the game.  All you have to do is take a look at the pitchers and you might agree with me.  Yo Darvsh, Masahiro Tanaka, Max Scherzer, Felix Hernandez, David Price and Jon Lester.  That should scare the bejeebers  out of the National League.

Of course, the highlight of the game will be to salute one of baseball’s greats, Derek Jeter who will be making his final trip to the All Star game.  While an earlier column suggested that Jeter’s numbers over a month ago might not be of all star caliber, it also said that if he gets consistent, he should be there.   It’s fitting that on the night the roster was announced, Jeter went 3-4, batted in a pair and scored once at Minnesota.  He is hitting a respectable .273, though only 2 HRs and 23 RBIs.   For his glorious career, he has a .311 average.

The National League will have a tough time stopping a powerful American League lineup that features C  Salvador Perez who will start in place of Matt Wieters who is on the DL for the Orioles; 1B Miguel Cabrera; 2B Robinson Cano; 3B Josh Donaldson; SS Derek Jeter; the starting outfielders will be Jose Bautista, Mike Trout and Adam Jones.  American League reserves feature Jose Abreu, Victor Martinez, Alexei Ramirez, Yoenis Cespedes, plus others.

Naturally, fans will be moaning about the many players who did not make the squad as well as the methods in selecting the players to participate but it is what it is an once the game is over…..it will be forgotten until the next season.

The American League will have power and speed.  Looking at the lineup is scary enough, but the pitchers are awesome.  If you believe that I root for the American League – you’re right but I dwell in an American League City, though I’m not a Yankee fan.  But the night will belong to the very popular Derek Jeter who will deservedly receive the loudest standing “O” on Don’t Get Me Started.
