The Buffalo Bills are 5 and 5 and they would have to win out to even have a shot for the playoffs. The season so full of hope just ten days ago now looks very, very familiar.  So the question is where do the Bills go from here?

If the team had made the playoffs my guess is Terry Pegula would have left the football department untouched. It is possible that could still be the case should the team rally down the stretch and finished above .500, but I find that unlikely. This team has too many issues offensively to beat teams like Denver, Green Bay or New England so I think an 8-8 finish is no guarantee.

My thoughts are that the Pegula’s will indeed bring in a senior football person who will report to them and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is Bill Polian. Polian’s name hasn’t been mentioned yet in the rumors, but anyone with even a general knowledge of the league knows Polian’s track record and desire to return to Buffalo.

Bill Polian has let it be known in certain circles that he likes Doug Marrone. In fact, Polian publicly stated on WGR radio two weeks ago that he considered Marrone a candidate for “NFL Coach of the Year”. That was when the Bills were 5-3 and very much in the hunt for a playoff spot, but the scenario has changed since then.

It’s not a well kept secret that Doug Marrone and Doug Whaley have issues. How deep they run only Marrone and Whaley know for certain, but it’s my feeling one of them may be gone next season. A Head Coach and GM must be on the same page to have success and I don’t believe that to be the case at One Bills Drive.

Fifteen years without a playoff appearance is an eternity in the NFL. It’s a football generation of young fans, children who have grown up in WNY without knowing what it’s like to have hopes of their team winning the Superbowl or at least being in the hunt.

Those of us over thirty remember the great years of the early 1990’s. We were all frustrated at the time that the Bills couldn’t win at least one of their four Super Bowl appearances, but that was nothing compared to today.

The Buffalo Bills have a new owner and money is no object. I believe that means change is in the air and there are plenty of resources to make anything possible.
