On Monday Kyle Orton Surprised Doug Marrone by announcing his retirement. Wednesday Marrone shocks all of Bills nation by exercising his option to to leave the Bills without any financial penalties. Marrone had a three day window to exercise his option, which was added to his contract when he signed with Buffalo because of Ralph Wilson’s ill health.
Speculation is that Marrone failed to get a contract extension and may now be a candidate for the New York Jets head coaching position. Marrone is from Long Island and served as the Jets Offensive line coach from 2002 to 2005.
Many look for the Bills to make a run at former team backup QB Frank Reich. Reich is currently the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers.
The loss of Orton and now Marrone leaves a team that improved by three games reeling. Fred Jackson’s response was “Didn’t see this coming!”
