Lindsay Matikosh Named NCCC Women’s Volleyball Coach

SANBORN, N.Y. — Lindsay Matikosh has been promoted to head women’s volleyball coach at Niagara County Community College. Matikosh has been an assistant under former coach Joe Daigler for the past four seasons. Daigler recently stepped down to spend more time with his family.

“I’m excited to take this next step at NCCC by taking over the program,” Matikosh said. “Joe did a wonderful job with it and I have some big shoes to fill, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking this position without him having my back 100 percent.”

Matikosh, a North Tonawanda native, has been an assistant at both NCCC and Canisius College. She’s also coached 18U travel volleyball with Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club since 2005. As a player, Matikosh had a record-setting career at the University at Buffalo where she still sits second all-time in kills and digs. A North Tonawanda High School Hall of Famer, Matikosh won three state championships, was a four-time all-state selection and was named New York State Player of Year in 1999 for the Lady Jacks.

“Lindsay was a natural choice to take over our women’s volleyball program,” athletics director Bob McKeown said. “Her playing experience speaks for itself, but the way she can teach the game is second to none. We’re glad to have her at NCCC.”

Matikosh takes over a program that finished second at the Region III Division III championships last fall. Her goal is to take that next step and lead the Thunderwolves to their first National Tournament appearance since 2011.

“I’m grateful to Bob and the rest of NCCC athletics for this opportunity and for their confidence that I can keep this program at the high level that we have been performing at since I began this journey,” Matikosh said. “Coaching and teaching are the things I love most in life because they’re so rewarding. I look forward to the future and continuing the legacy of NCCC volleyball.”

Matikosh has a bachelor’s degree in social sciences interdisciplinary with a concentration in early childhood education from the University at Buffalo. She is currently working on a master’s degree in childhood education from Canisius College. Matikosh is employed as a promotions manager/host supervisor at Batavia Downs
