DON’T GET ME STARTED has my eyes ready to focus on the “NEW” that will hit the ice Friday night in a scrimmage between the players. The first “New” will introduce fans to the prospects drafted and signed including number one pick Jack Eichel.
The other “New” is a charge of $10 for the right to see the new players. I believe that this is the first time that the Sabres have ever charged fans to watch the scrimmage. Boy that goes back to Knox, Rigas, Golisano, and now Pegula. I think it is time to put to bed the statement, “I’m not in it for the money” when Pegula bought the team.
There’s no denying that the Pegula’s have energized the fan base of both the Sabres and the Bills but wouldn’t it be nice if a statement came out “We will continue to let fans watch the Sabres in every practice and scrimmage as it has in the past – without charge.” But business now takes over for sportsmanship. Sure would have been nice if the club would allow the game/scrimmage to be televised, even on a delayed basis.
So far, everyone has been raving about the moves of #1 Sabres pick Jack Eichel and if his teammates are excited, fans will follow. The only thing left is to wait for the season to begin and find out if all of Tim Murray’s moves pays off in a playoff berth.
On paper, it certainly seems that the Sabres will put out a decent lineup, probably three good lines. Of course, defense is going to be a topic of discussion this season following the trading of Tyler Myers and Nikita Zadarov.
Add a questionable goalie situation that doesn’t have the numbers and it might mean that the Sabres will need to score quite a few goals to keep putting numbers in the win column.
I still scratch my head on Tim Murray allowing Halak to spend one day with the Sabres before letting him go. Halak went to the Islanders and helped that team reach the playoffs with some good goal-tending.
As fans have already demonstrated positive feelings about the Sabres and the Bills – the first bit of competition comes with the Sabres scrimmage under a new coach Friday on Don’t Get Me Started.
