Q: What have you seen from Tony Steward so far?
A: He’s got talent, that’s something good to see in a young guy. He’s going to come out there and play hard. We know he knows his stuff so it’s going to be good to have him out there, get some reps out there and get some experience.
Q: Are you okay with the communication?
A: Definitely. I mean it’s going to be something new playing together I mean we have to learn how each other plays. It’s going to be a little learning process throughout the week but we’ll have it ready by Sunday.
Q: Is it going to be weird not playing with Nigel Bradham?
A: Definitely. Going back to last year it’s been me and him for a while now, so it’s definitely going to be something different. But we’re hoping to get back as soon as possible.
Q: Is it tough losing Nigel at this stage?
A: Definitely. We know we have to win five straight so at this point, you don’t want to lose anybody. But now it seems like we’re starting to get back how we were in the beginning of the year losing a lot of people. But we’ll be all right, we have a lot of guys that can step up and play.

Q: How do the roles change with the injuries on the defense?
A: Definitely putting myself at a level at the point where I am directing guys around. Making sure everybody knows what they are doing, making sure we are in the film room studying. Make sure everybody is where they need to be because this is the biggest game of our season. We have to roll out all the stops, this week is whatever it takes.
Q: How tough is it that this week with more injuries?
A: I mean it is definitely difficult when you see your guys go down. Especially your best guys that you know you are relying on. You can’t feel sorry for yourself. You have to go out there and be ready to play. This league sometimes you only get one chance to go out there and show what you can do. So if you are out there putting on the blue, red, and white you have to be ready to roll.
Q: You say it is make or break, how do you change the outcome?
A: We just got to you know make sure we are all on the same page. Definitely play tougher up front, play you know good coverage on the back end. We just all have to, the biggest thing is we just all have to play together. And if we are all playing together as a team, not just as a defense just offense, defense, special teams, I think we will be alright.
Q: Your thoughts on Houston’s run game right now?
A: I definitely had a chance to check them out with watching them all day yesterday. They have a good run game, they are playing tough up front. They have a zone running scheme. You know guys that are able to cut it back and get up the field. So we are definitely going to have to be gap sound this week and get up the field and cause penetration.

Q: How much emphasis is on the defensive backfield knowing that you might have Mario Williams out again?
A: That’s what the NFL is. I mean, people are going to get hurt. Other people have to step up and players that have been on the field for a while have got to step up even more to secure that position so everybody can work together and we can make plays.
Q: Comment on how the injuries on the defense make it almost unrecognizable
A: I mean yeah, but it’s around the league. A lot of teams are banged up so, like I said, it’s next man up. You have to find a way to win, that’s the name of the game.
Q: What went wrong last week as a group?
A: We just didn’t make the plays. They made all the plays. They had a lot of time and receivers got open. Plays we’ve been making all year, we didn’t make. So we have to learn from it, put it behind us, and have a great practice this week and take it out on Houston.
Q: As a corner how do you look at every receiver the same when you’re going against DeAndre Hopkins?
A: He makes plays, don’t get me wrong. But everybody puts their helmet on the same. Got to be physical with him and the big thing with him is you have to get the ball when the ball is in the air because that’s when he makes his plays.
Q: How much have you embraced Rex Ryan putting you on an island this year and the challenge that comes with it?
A: That’s just something that I like doing. He is putting us in a position to make the ball come to us so you have to be up to that challenge. Every week, week in and week out, it’s going to be a good receiver and you have to be ready. They put us in that position, we have to be ready to step up and make plays.

Q: How tough is it to deal with all the injuries?
A: I mean any injury is tough. With guys, with so many that have gone out it is hard to fulfill all those roles, especially keys guys to offense, defense and special teams. But what we have to do is that we are trying to make a roll, and we have to make this roll, and we need this roll to get where we want to go. So no matter how tough it is, it is something we have to do if we want to get where we want to go.
Q: Is there a disappointment where this defense is at right now?
A: I think as a defense and being the on the defensive side you know our disappointment is that we haven’t shut out every team. You know expectations are expectations and everybody has their own expectations. You have yours, just as everybody else at there has theirs. So we can’t fulfil everybody’s expectations. But what are expectations is to win ball games and whatever it is. You know we prefer to keep a goose egg on our opponent’s side but we also want to limit them to a number of yards. But we if we can keep a goose egg and they may run up and down the field but don’t score, that is still a victory in our book. So as far as what our expectations are we want to be the best defensive we can possibly be and that is what we are still striving to get to.
Q: With Mario and Alex out last week and possibly this week did your role change or will it?
A: It didn’t change too much on Sunday. I was just there just to fill hats. This week I don’t think it is going to change either. I think guys are coming back, I think Mario [Williams] is going to come back, I hope he comes back. But I think my role will remain the same. We have other guys that can fulfil what our defensive line needs and our linebacker core. You know we have linebackers that can step in there. But as far myself goes I don’t really think my role is going to change too much.

Q: Thoughts on stepping in for Nigel Bradham who is out this week?
A: Yeah, I mean I’m just looking forward to get out there, be able to help the team. Just want to step in, be able to do what I can and make sure that I do everything to help the team win.
Q: What is the advantage of having a pretty good grasp of this defensive system?
A: I mean it helps to be familiar with it, being able to have gotten a few reps at the position. At practice they try to rotate us, make sure that we all know what we’re doing, make sure that we understand what’s going on. It helps out a lot.
Q: Comment on Houston’s ground game that has picked up some steam lately.
A: Definitely, you have to give Houston their props. They’re kind of rolling right now. They’re playing good football, but really we’re just worried about ourselves, trying to get our game plan down and doing what we have to do to get our next win.
Q: Will you just be playing the will spot? Or will you be at the mike as well?
A: Right now I believe I’ll be pretty strictly at the will spot.
Q: How hard is it to get on the same page in such a short period of time?
A: I mean really, it comes down to preparation. We do whatever we can to make sure we have good preparation so, as long as everybody here is practicing with the mindset that we have go out and win the game then everything will be alright.

Q: What sort of authority does Tyrod Taylor have in the locker room and among other leaders on the team?
A: By being the starting quarterback you automatically garner some sort of respect form the players around you. And when you work as hard and prepare like Tyrod does, it gives you a voice. He’s not extremely vocal in a locker room setting. He’s plenty vocal on the field. But when he speaks up, people listen.
Q: Do you see that developing over the course of his tenure as a starter?
A: Yeah, probably. I think the longer he is our starter, the more comfortable he’ll be in that role and the more it’ll come naturally. But like I said, guys that don’t say a ton, when they do speak up, people listen for sure.
Q: Is it too soon to talk about J.J. Watt?
A: No, no. We have our work cut out. And he’s a heck of a ball player; it’s very well documented. You got to go into the game with a plan, just like you do any big time player in this league. You got to have a plan against him, and we’ll have something Sunday.
Q: Seems like part of the plan with him is to find out where he lines up?
A: Yeah, he’ll generally attack you from all sorts of positions on the field. If you have a rookie out there, if you have a weak link, he’s going to try to expose it. It’ll be our best job to not really give him a weak link and be ready for him wherever he lines up.

Q: With all the defensive injuries, does that put more pressure on you guys to score?
A: We got to do to more. If the defense is there or defense not there. As an offense we got to produce more, be consistent on third downs, just get going. With guys going down, of course we got to pick up things. But we got to get on the right track.
Q: What do you think changed from half to half in that KC game?
A: Just looking at it we missed on our opportunities. Missed some key blocks, just small details that cost us and put us out of good field position and scoring drives.
Q: When you look at the video did you see a change in the way they played defense in the second half?
A: Yeah they probably, on my side they stayed the same with the one high safety. They probably just cheating that safety over towards Sammy [Watkins]’s side protecting that deep ball.
Q: What is the idea when they do that, run, Tyrod go somewhere else?
A: It is part of the play, you know he has to go through reads, depending on what the play is. It all depends on the call, you know where his eyes go.
Q: Corbin said it was a make or break game what do you do to change the outcome this time?
A: Be consistent. We have been saying that for weeks. We have been up, we have been down. But you know I don’t think at one point in time we have been consistent. In the games we win, I feel like the offensive are consistently clicking. We started off the drive with Kansas City looking like a consistent offensive. You know second half, shied away from that. We didn’t look the same.
