SANBORN, N.Y. — Niagara County Community College wrestling coach Keith Maute will sign three student-athletes to an NJCAA National Letter of Intent at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Athletics’ Building Lobby on the NCCC Sanborn campus.
Those expected to be in attendance and sign include: Fred Eckles (Lake Shore/Angola), Dakota Gardner (Fredonia/Fredonia) and Troy Keller (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda). All three grapplers were runner-up at this past season’s New York State Championships.
Eckles, who wrestled at 132 pounds, was a two-time Section VI large school champion, including this past winter. He finished his high school career with 203 wins, which places him 27th on the Section VI all-time wins list.
Gardner, who wrestled at 152 pounds, placed five times at the New York State Championships during his career. The two-time Section VI small school champion finished his high school career with 267 wins, which is second on the Section VI all-time wins list.
Keller, who wrestled at 145 pounds, was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Section VI Championships after his large school title. Keller finished his high school career with 206 wins, placing him 24th on the Section VI all-time wins list.
“We’re thrilled to add these three young men to our program,” Maute said. “They have the potential to make a huge impact on and off the mat at NCCC. I’m excited to work with them.”
The Thunderwolves, who were Region III runners-up and nationally-ranked this past winter, had four wrestlers earn NJCAA All-American honors. NCCC has 19 Region III titles, 45 NJCAA All-Americans and four NJCAA National Champions to its credit.
