March 26, 2018 –The Buffalo Bisons are extremely proud to announce that longtime member of the Bisons and Rich Products family, PAT MALACARO, has been named the new ‘Voice of the Bisons,’ and will anchor the Bisons Baseball Network in 2018. The team is equally excited to congratulate long time Bisons announcer BEN WAGNER on his appointment by Sportsnet’s 590 The Fan to the Toronto Blue Jays radio broadcast team.
Malacaro, 34, becomes just the fourth ‘Voice of the Bisons’ in the team’s modern era, following Wagner and Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famers Pete Weber and Jim Rosenhaus. He will once again be teamed with another Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer, Duke McGuire, to bring the excitement of Bisons Baseball all season long on the team’s flagship station, ESPN 1520 AM, and online on Bisons.com.
A native of South Buffalo, Malacaro has been a member of the Bisons family for nearly two decades, first serving as the club’s bat boy for four seasons, 1999-2002. He joined the Bisons broadcast team as a radio intern in 2004 and 2005 and then returned in 2010 after his graduation from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. In the last eight seasons, Malacaro has filled in for a number of broadcasts, providing extensive Bisons coverage on both radio and television.
Malacaro’s professional broadcast career began in 2006 when he joined the team at WGR Sportsradio 550 AM in a number of roles, including reporter, game host and producer. Most recently, he has assisted with the station’s postgame coverage of the Buffalo Sabres. From 2008-2010, he worked for the broadcast team of the Batavia Muckdogs, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Malacaro has also spent the 13 years working for the Buffalo Bisons parent company, Rich Products, most recently as a Customer Service Associate in the Foodservice Division. In his new role as the ‘Voice of the Bisons,’ Malacaro will also handle game-day media relations as well as credentialing at Coca-Cola Field.
Ben Wagner joins Sportsnet 590 The Fan
Ben Wagner continues the great Bisons tradition of announcers who have gone on to broadcast at the Major League level. That list includes Pete Weber (Nashville Predators), John Murphy (Buffalo Bills), Greg Brown (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Jim Rosenhaus (Cleveland Indians).
Wagner served as ‘The Voice of the Bisons’ for 11 seasons, calling over 1,500 games since joining the team in 2007, including the Triple-A All-Star Game in 2012. In that time, he has done a tremendous job connecting baseball fans in Western New York and Southern Ontario to the excitement of Bisons baseball both at Coca-Cola Field and throughout the International League. He anchored both radio and television broadcasts and worked with all the team’s media partners to expand the reach of Bisons baseball. Wagner also served as a great ambassador for Bisons baseball at various speaking and community appearances.
