Opening Day in Buffalo – Thursday, April 4 (2:05 p.m.)
April 2, 2013 – Buffalo Bisons manager Marty Brown has named RHP JUSTIN GERMANO as his Opening Day starting pitcher as the Herd hosts the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday, April 4 at Coca-Cola Field (2:05 p.m.).
RHP RAMON ORTIZ will get the ball on Friday with RHP CLAUDIO VARGAS and RHP DAVE BUSH working the weekend series in Rochester. RHP TODD REDMOND will wrap up the team’s first trip through the rotation when the Bisons return home on April 9 to face the Syracuse Chiefs.
Germano, 30, had an All-Star season with the Pawtucket Red Sox in 2012. The righty went 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 17 games/16 starts for the PawSox to begin the year. He was named to the International League All-Star Team but was recalled to Boston before the game was played in Buffalo. He pitched one game for the Red Sox before being traded to the Chicago Cubs for the remainder of the season.
Germano, who was signed by the Blue Jays this off-season, was Pawtucket’s Opening Day starter last season and defeated the Bisons, 4-2, at McCoy Stadium on April 5, 2012. Germano allowed two runs in 5.0 innings with two strikeouts in that game.
Germano has pitched 93 games in the Major Leagues with the Padres, Reds, Indians, Red Sox and Cubs. The righty also has a career 90-69 record (.566 winning pct.) in 254 career minor league games.
