Buffalo Bills Coach Doug Marrone announced this morning on his WGR radio show that the Buffalo Bills will take quarterback Thad Lewis off the Practice Squad and he will be the starter Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Rookie quarterback EJ Manuel could be sidelined anywhere from two to eight weeks according to the Bills due to his sprained LCL. Marrone and staff, unable to sign Josh Freeman, decided to pass by rookie Jeff Tuel and go with Lewis, who has worked with the offense now for over a month.
Lewis, who spent the first five weeks of the season on the practice squad, will be signed to the active roster.
Lewis, 25, was acquired in a trade with the Detroit Lions on Aug. 25 after Manuel underwent surgery on his left knee. Lewis, who went undrafted out of Duke in 2010, made his only career start last season for the Browns.
According to a team source the Bills worked out free-agent quarterbacks Pat White and Dennis Dixon on Sunday. the Bills are still looking to add another QB to their Practice Squad.
