Q: That was the most extensive playing time you’ve seen this year right?
A: Yeah, but it was one of those things were you pretty much just have to be ready for your opportunity. Manny went down so I had to be able to just be ready and go out there and play.

Q: How difficult were the first five weeks with your snap numbers not what you expected?

A: it’s not what I expected, but it is what it is. Pretty much just have to do whatever we can to be the best defense we can and that’s the main thing. We’re going to put our best players out there.

Q: Are there any differences between the role you were put in to yesterday and what you have practiced?

A: In a way it’s kind of universal. Sometimes it’s kind of universal. It mixes and matches. Sometimes the matchups are a lot different, sometimes they’re not. It’s one of the things where it’s a different scheme and we have so many different packages that you just have to be ready for all the packages and just be ready for whenever anybody gets hurt. Just be prepared.

Q: What did Thad Lewis show you yesterday?
A: That he could play. I knew what type of weapon he was having him on practice squad. Just seeing him come out here and work every day. He got a chance to go out and showcase his abilities and I think he did a tremendous job doing that so hopefully he can continue to progress and get better.

Q: Is it just part of the business having different quarterbacks rotating in?

A: Yeah, that’s just it. It’s a physical game and guys are going to get sore, going to get dinged up and get hurt throughout the season. Just have to get the next man up whoever it may be. We bring a guy in, he’s got to hit the ground running and whoever it is we have to rally behind him and try to keep this thing rolling.

Q: What adjustments does everyone else on the field have to make with different quarterbacks?

A: It’s something that we definitely have to adjust to. Different guys have different ways of doing things. Balls come out different, calls are different at the line of scrimmage and that’s just things that we have to adjust to and be able to adjust to and be able to go out there and focus on what we have to do, getting our job done.

Q: How much do you worry that the instability at the quarterback position might catch up to you guys?

A: It definitely can be something. We can’t focus on it. We have to do whatever we can to make sure that doesn’t happen. We have to be professionals and do what we can to take care of the business that we have to. Take the pressure off whoever it is back there. We come out and do our job, whether it’s myself, C.J (Spiller) in the running game, the offensive line doing what they can in pass protection, blocking for us and things like that. Receivers running routes the same way they always run routes. I think that will take a lot of pressure off whoever it is back there.

Q: How much of an adjustment is it for the rest of the team with changes at quarterback?

A: It’s the hand that we were dealt with this situation with injuries. It’s hard, but we have to find a way to get through it before Sunday comes. If not, then we may embarrass a lot of our fans and ourselves. That’s not what we want to do, so we’re going to do everything we can to get everybody on the same page.

Q: What does Coach Hilliard do to make sure you guys nail down the timing in the span of sometimes three to four practices?

A: Just breaking down the film. Watching the tendencies on DB’s, safeties and seeing what they do in certain situations. That way we know how to get open, we know what to expect a little bit. That way we have more room for the quarterback to throw, especially when you haven’t built chemistry with the quarterbacks.

Q: How are you physically? Were you close to playing?
A: Yeah, close. Not well enough to be effective or to be a factor I believe. Like I was saying earlier, I felt like this week I’m more hopeful, more optimistic about playing because I have had the treatment and I have the time that I’ll be spending with the guys on the field.

Q: What are your thoughts on the defensive performance?

A: We just have to get better each week. As far as the defensive side of the ball, we just have to eliminate the big plays. This week we focused on not giving up the deep ball, we did a great job of that, but the screens and reverses kind of got the best of us this week.

Q: You talk about preventing deep plays and a lot of that depends on you guys in the defensive backfield. How hard has it been to do that with the players constantly changing?

A: We just have to do the best we can with the guys we have. Guys practice each week, focus on working on technique. I felt like this week we did a great job of keeping their receivers from going deep. Like I said again, the screens killed us this week. We’ve just got to look back and see what we did wrong and get ready for Miami.

Q: Does the way the game went frustrate you more because the offense held up their end and scored 24 points?

A: The offense did a great job of holding up their end and I felt like in the first half we didn’t do a great job getting off the field and allowing our offense to get the ball in great position. We just have to do the best we can, we tried to hold up our end in the first half and we really started coming out in the second half stronger, which we did. We gave our offense the opportunity to come back and the offense did a great job scoring at the last second. We just have to do a great job of holding our end at the end of the game.

Q: Is it somewhat comforting that you’re going back to safety?
A: I don’t know if I’m going back to safety yet. I feel like (Stephon) Gilmore is still trying to come back to his rhythm of playing. He told me yesterday was a little awkward for him, especially with a big club like that. It’s kind of hard for a cornerback to play with one arm. It’s a game where you’ve got to be physical at the line. If you let a receiver off the line easily you’ll lose 90 percent of the time. We’ll see how Gilmore does this week, if he has a club or not this week. It all depends how he feels and who we have as far as cornerbacks. We still have guys a little beat up, but we’ll take it day by day.

Q: What’s your view on different quarterbacks coming in?
A: That’s something that we’ll have to address this week and I’m not sure. It hasn’t yet because we’ve always kind of promoted from within and all of our quarterbacks have done a great job of staying up to pace. As you saw yesterday, Thad (Lewis) ran a pretty flawless game as far as management. There was no disorganization. We had one pre-snap penalty in overtime and they kind of gave us a false count on defense with the movement and that’s tough because of our fast paced offense. Thad did a great job, so we have to see this week how we do it.

Q: What did Thad Lewis show you yesterday?
A: He’s a confident player and I don’t think any moment will ever be too big for Thad Lewis. He’s kind of got that cool, calm, collected demeanor about him and he did a great job of kind of weathering the storm when things weren’t going great. Cincinnati’s defense gave him a couple of opportunities and he really made them pay. Credit him for being prepared yesterday and 24 points wasn’t enough. We needed to do more yesterday offensively and we didn’t unfortunately.
