CHICAGO—The Premier Basketball League has added a pair of teams based along the eastern shore of Lake Erie for the 2014 season, which is set to tip off on New Year’s Eve in Rochester, N.Y.

The Buffalo 716ers and the Erie (Penn.) Hurricane have agreed to join the PBL for the upcoming campaign.  The additions bring to eleven the number of teams for the 2014 season.

Both clubs are owned by Tawan Slaughter of Buffalo.  Slaughter is the president and chief executive officer at Royalty Sports Corporation, a management agency for athletes.  She played collegiate basketball at Buffalo State College, averaging more than 16 points per game.

“I am excited about this opportunity to play in the PBL,” said Slaughter.  “We look forward to building a great rivalry with the Rochester RazorSharks.  This league will challenge my players and get help them develop their careers so they can get to the next level.”

“We are tremendously excited to add these teams in the Northeast,” said Ed Schumer, commissioner of the PBL.  “With Rochester in that division as well, basketball fans in that region will have lots of exciting basketball to watch.  We anticipate great rivalries being born among those three teams,” Schumer added.

Slaughter will serve as the head coach for the Buffalo club.  She will be assisted by Damien Goodwin, Victor Arroyo, George Alexander, Ali Ramadan and Mario Williams.

Cory Coleman will be the head coach for Erie.  He will be assisted by Anthony Green.
