The Buffalo Bills hit bottom Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers losing 27-6 and took a significant step back under rookie Coach Doug Marrone. Rookie signal caller EJ Manuel had his poorest game of the season throwing four interceptions, no touchdowns on 18 of 33 for just 184 yards. Manuel was also sacked seven times as the Bills offensive line failed to control the Bucs defensive line in both the run as well as the passing game.
Tampa Bay scored on the second play from scrimmage as Bobby Rainey raced eighty yards for a score breaking free of a Kiko Alonso tackle and going untouched until another missed tackle at the ten.
The Bucs went up 24-3 at the half and while offensively they faltered in the second half the Bills were equally inept when they had the ball.
Buffalo’s running back duo of CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson were held to 22 and 12 yards respectively, but they only ran the ball sixteen times total.
Buffalo had eleven penalties and several at key times that either negated a big play of extended a possession for Tampa. Doug Marrone singled out the penalties in his postgame news conference, but could not explain his team’s lack of execution or focus.
Buffalo again travels to Florida next Sunday as they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills are now 4-9.
