Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb, fighting for a starting spot with rookie EJ Manuel, had a setback Saturday at Bills training camp after suffering a freak injury. Kolb was running from one practice station to another when he awkwardly slipped on a wet mat located between the two. Kolb did not leave his feet, but it was obvious he suffered some sort of leg injury.
Kolb was attended to immediately by Bills Head Trainer Bud Carpenter who supported the QB as he took a seat on the turf. Observers noted Kolb was visibly upset and taken to the locker room by the training staff. The mats were then swept by staff to remove any wet spots.
After practice Coach Doug Marrone said Kolb should be out for a few days. “Obviously with Kevin, he slipped on his way transferring from field to field,” said Marrone. “He bumped his knee and he’ll just be day by day.”
“When I look at players especially the quarterback position, Kevin has played that position and taken some big hits,” Marrone said when asked about Kolb’s injury history. “I think anyone in that position probably would’ve sustained the same amount give or take a little bit here or there. It’s disappointing that when you get labeled like that because the one thing I do know about Kevin is he’s a tough son of a gun. He’ll get back out there quickly if it’s up to him.”
