A day after releasing OL Chris Scott, Buffalo made use of their roster vacancies signing a pair of offensive linemen Sunday. The Bills signed free agents Antoine Caldwell and Tony Hills.
Caldwell, a former third-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2009, appeared in 40 games for Houston in his four NFL seasons lining up mainly at guard. He has made 19 starts in his NFL career.
The 6’3” 315-pound Alabama product figures to be part of the left guard competition that currently has Doug Legursky and Colin Brown as its two most noteworthy candidates. Caldwell is just 27-years old.
Hills (6’5” 304) is an offensive tackle by trade who has bounced around the league the past few seasons. After spending the 2012 preseason with Denver, Hills was subsequently signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. Before the 2012 season was over however, Hills had a appeared in four games for the Colts.
With the Broncos in 2011, Hills was mostly inactive before appearing in Denver’s AFC Wild Card game that season.
He also played in four games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010, which is where Hills began his NFL career after the club made him a fourth-round pick in 2008.
The signing of Hills was likely prompted by the absence of OT Chris Hairston, who is currently on Active PUP still rehabbing from an undisclosed injury that kept him out of most of the spring practices.
Buffalo’s roster total is now at 88 with the two signings.
