Sanborn, NY — The Niagara County Community College men’s basketball team’s run toward a National Championship ended in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II Tournament on Thursday in Danville, Ill. The Thunderwolves fell behind by double digits within the opening five minutes and could not catch up, dropping a 105-78 decision to No. 2 South Suburban (Ill.) College.
NCCC (25-6 overall), which is making its first National Tournament appearance since 1979, will now move to the consolation bracket where it will face the loser of Louisburg (N.C.) College and Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner of Friday’s game earns the right to play for 5th place on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Cory Reeves (Rush Henrietta/Rochester, NY) led the Thunderwolves with a game-high 26 points off the bench Thursday. Freshman guard LaTerrance Reed (Canisius/Buffalo, NY) added 10 points – his second consecutive game in double figures.
