Niagara Wheatfield team accepts Championship plaque
The Niagara Wheatfield high school wrestling team won the 35th annual Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Association tournament held at Niagara County Community College finishing on top of the 38 school field. Niagara Wheatfield, ranked the number one Div I school in Section Six, had five finalists and two individual Champions in Justin McDougald at 99 lbs and Colin Goodrich at 170 lbs to total 211.5 points.
Mexico high school from the Syracuse area came in second place with 181.5 points and three champions while Lockport finished third with 164 points.
Also finishing in the top ten were Maple Grove, Falconer, Webster Schroeder, St. Francis, Lancaster, Iroquois and Roy-hart/Barker.
MOW Austin O’Reilly with Norma and Dick Beyer
Austin O’Reilly of Mexico was named the Ilio DiPaolo Most Outstanding Wrestler after winning the very tough 113 lb weight class defeating AJ Putt of Maple Grove in the finals.
