To watch Terry Pegula walk out on to the turf at the AdPro Training Center with virtually every VP in both the Bills and Sabres organization in attendance was surreal. I have covered sports in this town for almost 35 years and I’ve never been witness to anything like it. Terry Pegula has made unique history this week and we may never see another era like this one.

The Buffalo Bills have always been the big dog in Western New York. Yes, there have been individual seasons when the Sabres were more popular, but since 1970 the Bills have commanded the larger following. On the surface that will not change with one owner, but behind the scenes it means a more cohesive community marketing effort. A blending of messages and eventually one corporate philosophy.

Terry and Kim Pegula, in just four years, have committed more financial resources to WNY than any couple before them. This seemingly unassuming couple share the hopes and wishes of all Buffalo sports fans, but also have the wherewithal to do something about it.

When Terry Pegula addressed the media Friday afternoon he stopped several times to compose his emotions. He spoke of a eight year old Terry Pegula being a Detroit Lions fan when ironically Ralph Wilson was one of the owners. The thought that he was now one of those NFL owners overwhelmed his senses. The fact is, his action in buying the Buffalo Bills now assures that thousands of eight year old boys currently living in WNY will have a football team to cheer on for the foreseeable future.
